Engine Degreaser | Engine Cleaner
When it comes to engine cleaners and degreaser you have many options of solvents and chemical cleaners that not only break down oil substances on car and truck engines, gearbox and undercarriage, but can also be used for almost any cleaning application where various vegetable oils, animal fat and other stubborn grease and general grime are concerned.
Engine degreasers have been around since the modern motor vehicle explosion. These cleaners and degreasers have always been an item that was never readily available on the motor spares suppliers shelves and the motor mechanics, motor engineers and the man on the street would have had to find alternative and inventive potions and ingenious ways to get old stubborn grease and long term grime off their valuable and much loved cars without much success.
Blends of harmfull caustic soda, bicarbonate of soda, petrol, diesel and just about any solutions were used with adverse effects, resorting to scrubbing, scratching and scraping leaving undesirable marks and scratches on expensive surfaces which were often irrepairable.
The motor industry has seen many engine and used motor parts cleaners come and go with few that have had much success. One product that has stood out from the rest is a product called Prepsol which is a magic degreaser used by many leading motor vehicle manufacturers, mechanics, panelbeaters and and the motor trade in general, including the man on the street and is available at most leading motor spares suppliers throughout South Africa.
Prepsol is a quality environmentally friendly degreaser that doesn’t kill plant life or grasses like many of it's counterparts on the market. It is completely safe to use under adult supervision and has many beneficial attributes, the most prolific being that Prepsol is capable of safely cleaning most metals, plastics and rubbers and at the same time will leave alloys in particular and certain plastic materials glistening with a well polished and sparkling appearance.
However, care must be exercised when using any chemical degreasers or engine cleaners as they can disrupt certain paint surfaces and etched plastics and similar materials with prolonged use and therefore it would be advisable to dilute the degreaser by up to 60% and wash off with clean water immediately after use.
Panel beaters and spray painters are notorious for using Prepsol as a cleaning and degreasing agent when preparing cars for spray painting. A simple finger print carries enough natural oil that is secreted through the skin, which if left, as a finger print on the area to be spray painted, could result in the eventual deterioration and flaking or cracking of the automotive paint finish. Once the vehicle has been cleaned with Prepsol it must be thoroughly rinsed off to remove the soapy film that Prepsol characterizes.
