Motor Scrap Yard | Used Spares
A ‘Motor Scrap Yard’ is an accident damaged vehicle recycling operation that buys motor vehicle accident damaged cars written off by the insurance companies or from people who have no insurance at all.
These cars are purchased from an array of places, which includes, vehicle auctions, insurance companies and the general public at large. The auto scrap yard then strips these motor vehicles for their valuable parts and sells off the remaining scrap metal to the scrap metal merchants.
Motor Scrap Yards are effectively a scrap metal brokerage that deals in scrap cars parts, used spares and cars for sale. The common auto scrap yards typically sell their scrap metal at a profit which is usually included and taken off the purchase price of the vehicle. The metal merchants pay a standard price measured in the weight of the vehicle being sold. Cars are made up many different materials and it is up to the metal scrap yard to decide what they will pay for base metal which can be made up of iron, mild steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum, zinc, nickel, and lead metals which are found in the composition of the modern day vehicle. Plastic, rubber, foam rubber and glass make up the majority of the balance of the vehicles material composites.
Scrap Yards will sell their stock piles of mangled metals either to refineries or larger scrap brokers. The scrap industry contributed 487 billion rand in 2006 and the USA exports 120 billion rands worth in scrap commodities for the year 2006. The recycling of scrap cars and other metals plays an important role in the reduction of greenhouse gasses and emissions and conserves energy and natural resources around the globe. Scrap metal recycling diverts 145 million short tons of materials away from landfills and recycled scrap is a raw material feedstock for 2 out of 3 kilograms of steel made in the United States.
Scrap metals originate from businesses and homes. Scrap is often taken to a wrecking yard which has developed a names across the world also known as a salvage yard, scrap yard, junkyard, or breaker's yard, where it is processed and the metal recovered is used to make new steel products.
The automotive scrap yards that deal in large quantities of scrapped vehicles do not sell engines or machinery by weight but rather price valued engines, gearboxes and other re-usable car and truck parts for a much higher profit. In contrast to automotive wreckers, metal scrap yards typically sell everything by weight, rather than by item.
Other terms used to describe the scrap yard include wreck yard, wrecker's yard, salvage yard, breakers yard, dismantler and scrappers yard. In the United Kingdom, car salvage yards are known as car breakers, while motorcycle salvage yards are known as bike breakers. In the USA scrap yards are usually referred to as wreckers yards or salvage yards, while in South Africa the scrap yard is generally called a ‘Motor Scrap Yard’.
