Eco-Friendly Auto Scrapyards
The terminology may be confusing, because an eco-friendly scrapyard is and was usually a yard where scrap metal is dumped. In the early to mid 1900’s scrapyards were a place to dump heaps of scrap metals including any vehicle that was considered unserviceable and left to rust away. These old car and truck metal dumping grounds soon became a common place for not only scrap metal but also a place for off loading cars, bakkie & trucks and any other vehicles that had been involved in a road accident or simply unfit for road use due to severe mechanical breakdown .
These metal dumping grounds retained the title “Scrapyards” though modern motorized vehicles were added to the scrap metal list and many of these scrapyard establishments developed into a hives of dismantler yards where the cars and trucks were stripped of all parts of value and sold, leaving the damaged body shell and other unusable spare parts for the scrap-metal dealers to salvage and recycle back into solid bars of steel, piping and other forms of steel products etc.
Today we stand at a point of no return, where our fragile green planet is under siege due to the human race, that has not only damaged the earth in a record breaking 100 years, but has progressed it to the stage where global warming is causing our polar ice caps to melt. If this process is not significantly reversed within the next 20 years, the human race will begin to self destruct at an alarming rate. In short we have dismally failed to control the pollution of our eco system.
